Chinese New Year in Cebu
Hello everyone, sorry it’s been so long since my last update!
For Christmas this year Josh gave me a vacation to Cebu, which is an island in the Philippines. I was pretty excited because we’ve lived here for almost two years and we haven’t had the time/money/opportunity to go any where other than Macau. And I hadn’t added a country to my list of places I’ve been since we came to Hong Kong the first time (2007). Besides those reasons, who wouldn’t want to be at the beach?
We spent four days at a lovely resort on the island. We didn’t do anything cultural. We spent our days enjoying the sunshine, drinking mango juice and swimming. Literally the most active thing we did was snorkel. It was amazing. I loved every second of it and came back refreshed and relaxed.
I am hoping to submit a couple of these shots for a calendar contest at Josh’s job. The theme is “kaleidoscope.” So let me know what you think! Which shots are your favorite?
Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Why I shoot
I’m stuck at home because I re-dislocated my knee. I’ve been rewatching Mad Men. In the very last episode of season one Don Draper is pitching an ad campaign to the Kodak people for their slide projector. Gets me every time and explains in better words than I ever could why I love taking photos so much:
Don Draper: Nostalgia – it’s delicate, but potent. Teddy told me that in Greek, “nostalgia” literally means “the pain from an old wound.” It’s a twinge in your heart far more powerful than memory alone. This device isn’t a spaceship, it’s a time machine. It goes backwards, and forwards… it takes us to a place where we ache to go again. It’s not called the wheel, it’s called the carousel. It let’s us travel the way a child travels – around and around, and back home again, to a place where we know are loved.
Macau
In October Josh and I went to Macau to see the city and celebrate an anniversary. We had a lot of fun – we did a four hour walking tour around the city. Here are some of my favorite shots.

Mid-autumn Festival
Back in September Josh and I went to the Mid-Autumn festival festivities in Victoria Park. While the fire dragon was a let down, it was pretty fun to explore the park at night. Here are some of my favorite shots.

Tea with the Lavins
While Hannah and Eliza were here we also took them for tea in Causeway Bay, I love this place and the whole tea ceremony. We hadn’t been here since the first time we came out to Hong Kong in 2007. Seriously need to go more often. It’s awesome.

Victoria Peak
Josh and I have some visitors coming this week and it made me think back to September when his sister Hannah and cousin Eliza were in town. We took them to Victoria Peak to see the view. Here are some of my favorites (the rest are on Facebook).

Victoria Park
A ten minute walk from our place is Victoria Park. It is the biggest patch of public greenery on the island. I love the green space in this city. This park reminds me a bit of Central Park because you can see a lot of the city while surrounded by green. Pretty cool.

Wan Chai
Wandering around Wan Chai got some cool photos of the city, here they are!
Birthday flowers
I had a great birthday in Hong Kong – got cake and lunch from my coworkers, Josh made sushi for dinner and I came home to flowers from my parents. Totally awesome! They were SO pretty – here are some shots of them.
